Orang Eropa Aja Bangga Kenapa Kita Engga?

MEDAN, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Head of Delegation, Delegation of the European Union to Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and ASEAN, Colin Crooks, mengungkapkan, pemerintah negara-negara Uni Eropa sangat bangga dapat membantu pemerintah Indonesia meningkatkan mutu pendidikan melalui berbagai program beasiswa di banyak universitas bergengsi di negara-negara Eropa. Ia berharap, program ini dapat memberikan manfaat yang baik pada Indonesia dan menjaga hubungan erat antarpemerintahan.

Saya senang sekali banyak institusi pendidikan Eropa yang antusias kepada pelajar dari Indonesia

Colin mengungkapkan, saat ini ratusan pelajar Indonesia dikirim untuk melanjutkan studi di berbagai universitas di Eropa melalui kesempatan beasiswa Erasmus Mundus.

"Saya senang sekali banyak institusi pendidikan Eropa yang antusias kepada pelajar dari Indonesia," kata Colin saat ditemui Kompas.com, pada Pameran Pendidikan Tinggi Eropa atau European Higher Education Fair (EHEF), di Grand Aston City Hall Hotel, Medan, Selasa (15/11/2011).

Menurutnya, partisipasi dalam program beasiswa yang digagas Uni Eropa ini wujud dari banyaknya institusi pendidikan di Eropa yang ingin mengangkat Indonesia menjadi negara yang layak terkait investasi jangka panjang melalui pendidikan.

"Karena pendidikan adalah investasi jangka panjang, Uni Eropa ingin menanamkan investasi pada pelajar Indonesia," jelasnya.

Colin menambahkan, keterlibatan Uni Eropa dalam sektor pendidikan di Indonesia tidak hanya sebatas pada pendidikan tinggi, namun pada semua jenjang pendidikan. Menurutnya, hal ini sejalan dengan fokus utama dalam kerjasama pembangunan Uni Eropa dan Indonesia.

"Di Asia, Indonesia termasuk penerima bantuan pembangunan Uni Eropa yang terbesar. Ini jaminan untuk membantu pengentasan kemiskinan dan pertumbuhan ekonomi melalui peningkatan mutu pendidikan, daya saing dan produktivitas tenaga kerja. Kami berharap kemitraan ini akan semakin erat," katanya.

Sementara itu, ditemui Kompas.com secara terpisah, akhir pekan lalu, Duta Besar Uni Eropa untuk Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam, dan ASEAN, Julian Wilson mengungkapkan, dalam bidang pendidikan, Uni Eropa secara serius membantu pemerintah Indonesia melalui berbagai program pendidikan. Salah satunya, mewujudkan program yang mendukung rencana strategis pemerintah, dalam hal ini Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan.

"Kami mendukung renstra pemerintah Indonesia. Uni Eropa punya 400 juta euro untuk membantu pemerintah mewujudkan standar pendidikan dasar dan kebijakan pemerintah. Kami percaya kepada pemerintah sebagai partner yang seimbang dan memberikan uang kepada kementerian untuk diimplementasikan dalam berbagai program," kata Julian, disela EHEF 2011, di Jakarta.

Untuk kerjasama dalam bidang pendidikan tinggi, selain mengadakan kerjasama dengan berbagai universitas, Uni Eropa juga mendukung pengembangan riset melalui kerjasama dengan institusi pendidikan tinggi di Indonesia.

David Silva lands in hot water over non-payment of £17k rent

London, Jan 12 : David Silva had caught himself in a legal battle after he refused to pay the 17,000-pound rent on a luxury mansion.

The Manchester City winger, who is set to earn 200,000 pounds a week in a new contract, dug his heels in after making a string of complaints about the 3.75 million-pound property.

It included claims that the Jacuzzi was too hot and the indoor pool too cold.

A row erupted between the Cheshire pile's owners Vian and Silva's lawyers.

But a deal was struck and the Spanish player, is now seeking a new pad.

"It has been a nightmare," the Sun quoted Vian's lawyer Mark Slaven as saying.

He said that the pool and spa were Silva's responsibility.
